Welded tubes

Welded tubes are similar to welded pipes in their manufacturing process but are typically used in applications that require smaller diameters, such as in automotive, HVAC, and mechanical systems. These tubes are made by welding metal strips or sheets and then forming them into a tube. Welded tubes are ideal for applications requiring moderate strength and are available in a variety of materials.

Welded tubes are manufactured by forming a flat sheet or strip of metal and then welding the edges together to form a tube. This process can be done using different types of welding methods such as electric resistance welding (ERW), laser welding, or submerged arc welding (SAW). The welded seam is then treated and sometimes tested to ensure the tube’s strength and durability.

 

Welded tubes are generally more cost-effective than seamless tubes, as they involve a less complex manufacturing process. However, they are not as strong or durable under certain extreme conditions because the welded seam can become a weak point where stress concentrations may occur. These tubes are commonly used in industries where the pressures and demands are less extreme, such as HVAC systems, structural applications, and general plumbing.

 

Despite their lower strength compared to seamless tubes, welded tubes still offer excellent versatility and can be manufactured in a variety of sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. They are often used in the production of machinery parts, piping systems, and other industrial applications. With advancements in welding technology, the quality of welded tubes has improved significantly, making them suitable for a wider range of uses.
